Rep. Maxwell Frost stresses housing as priority for young voters

Zoom in: Asked by Axios' Alex Thompson what Harris' policy priorities should be if she wins the election, Frost pointed to her new housing platform.

• "What does it look like for a Democrat to be a champion on housing? I think the vice president just did that last week and put forth what it means," he said.
• Harris announced her administration's plans for the first 100 days in office would include moving to build three million new housing units, offering $25,000 in downpayment assistance for first-time buyers and banning price gouging on food and groceries.
• In addition, Frost said, it's a priority to ensure "that we crack down on all these horrible predatory practices that are keeping working people, working families, young people, from even getting the opportunity to rent."

What he's saying: Frost said "the barrier is so high for being able to rent in the first place" that people fresh out of college can't afford to do so.

• He pointed to his own experience of being unable to find affordable housing in Washington D.C. when, at age 25, he became the first member of Generation Z to be elected to Congress.
• "My credit was so bad during my campaign because I wasn't being paid as a candidate [and I] quit my job to run for Congress," Frost said.
