Exclusive: Rep. DeLauro predicts women will propel Harris, Dems to victory

• DeLauro expressed confidence that Democrats would retake the House and said they could also maintain control of the Senate.
• "I really think that we can take all three — I'm not Pollyanna," DeLauro, the top Appropriations Committee Democrat, told Axios' Margaret Talev.
• "We're looking at women consolidating around this country like we've not seen in the past."

Driving the news: DeLauro cited Democrats' push to expand the child tax credit as among the issues important to women voters that were once considered "fringe" but have become central to this election.

• Harris has proposed a $6,000 child tax credit for families during the first year of a child's life.
• Like President Biden, she also wants to bring back the expanded child tax credit, which was enacted as part of the American Rescue plan.

The intrigue: Trump's running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) floated the idea of a $5,000-per-child expanded tax credit during a sit-down interview this month with CBS' "Face the Nation."

• DeLauro slammed Vance for missing a vote earlier this month on a House-passed bill to expand the credit. The measure didn't get enough votes to advance.
• "He didn't show up for the vote, so I don't know what he's talking about," she said.
• Vance, whose campaign didn't respond to a request for comment, missed the vote because of a scheduled visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, NBC reported. Vance told CBS that the "show vote" would still have failed even if he'd been there.
