Latino civil rights group LULAC endorses Harris-Walz ticket in historic first

• "Throughout her career, Harris has demonstrated a commitment to justice, equality and inclusivity — values that resonate deeply with the Latino community and will move our country forward in the right direction," the PAC's chairman, Domingo Garcia, said in a release announcing the endorsement on Friday.

Zoom in: LULAC Adelante PAC's executive board voted unanimously on Friday to endorse Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, per the release.

• LULAC, which has 140,000 members across 535 councils nationwide, credited Harris for her work in the White House on education, immigration and supporting small businesses.
• It pledged to organize in key battleground states —Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and Wisconsin — to mobilize Latino voters in support of Harris.

• For example, LULAC hosted a gala for President John F. Kennedy in Houston the night before he was assassinated in Dallas.

• LULAC Leaders had urged Kennedy to come to Texas to reignite the Viva Kennedy clubs who helped get him elected in 1963.

What's next: LULAC leadership will join the Harris-Walz campaign on Saturday in Nevada, where the campaign said it is running the "largest in-state operation of any coordinated campaign ever" with 13 offices.

• Harris will also meet with the organization "to hear about the issues that matter most to the Latino community," LULAC's statement said.
