Trump agrees to FBI interview for assassination attempt investigation

Former President Trump has agreed to be interviewed by the FBI as part of its probe into his attempted assassination earlier this month, the agency announced Monday.

Why it matters: The victim interview is a standard part of the FBI's investigative process, which has been probing the Trump rally shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania as a potential act of domestic terrorism.

Driving the news: "We interview victims of crime to offer our support and learn about their perspective regarding their experience," FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek said on a press call Monday.

"To that end, we have contacted former president Trump and he has agreed to participate in a victim interview," he added.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

The big picture: During the press call, Rojek shared further findings about the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Crooks had made more than two dozen purchases of weapons and explosives under aliases, the New York Times reported.
So far, the FBI's investigation has not revealed Crooks' motive.
The agency confirmed last week that Trump had indeed been struck by a bullet, or a fragment of one.
