Air travelers leaving the Atlanta, Houston and Detroit areas had the roughest go of it after major IT issues rocked airline systems around the world.
By the numbers: Nearly 78% of flights departing Atlanta were delayed or canceled as of about 1 p.m. ET on Friday, per FlightAware.
The same was true of about 71% of flights departing Houston, and about 67% of those leaving Detroit.
All three cities have major hub airports.
The big picture: 2,430 flights within, leaving or arriving the U.S. were canceled as of midday Friday, FlightAware says.
That's compared to 929 for the entire day on Thursday and 1,051 on Wednesday — typical days, more or less, in the aviation world.
Zoom in: The technical issues — which are also affecting hospitals, law enforcement and more — stemmed from a cybersecurity software update gone terribly wrong, Axios' Sam Sabin reports.
