1. At least 3,000 children and teens have been arrested in El Salvador over unproven accusations of being gang members, a new Human Rights Watch report says.
The minors were swept up as part of a state of emergency, in place since March 2022, that allows authorities to detain people indefinitely and without a warrant if they're suspected of being in a gang.
The HRW says about 1,000 of those children and teens have been convicted with shoddy evidence and in "unfair trials that deny due process."
