While most CEOs kept their statements about the political violence that ensued on July 13 short and clinical, one executive used the opportunity to endorse Trump from his company's communication channels.
Why it matters: Other very online CEOs and founders have taken to social media to endorse candidates. Still, until now, none have pushed their personal political beliefs across business platforms.
Driving the news: Anthony Constantino, the co-founder of custom printing company Sticker Mule — whose clients include Google, Facebook and Netflix — posted on the brand's X account calling for support of Trump.
- "Vocalize your support. Stop the hate," he wrote.
- Constantino then used the Sticker Mule company account to troll other X users in the comments.
Yes, but: It didn't end there. The company emailed all customers on Monday with the subject line "Trump 2024."
- In the email obtained by Axios, Constantino repeated his support of Trump and added, "Btw, this week, get 1 shirt for $4 (normally $19). I suggest buying one that shows you support Trump."
What they're saying: When asked about his decision to send his political beliefs to all customers from the company's customer service email address, Constantino told Axios, "I want max fun for everyone in the world and I think Donald Trump will deliver that."
- Constantino did not disclose how his support of Trump has impacted the business, but he did say that his team has received hate mail and death threats.
- "Business owners that support Biden can do so publicly. Trump supporters cannot. It's an unhealthy dynamic," he added.
The intrigue: According to Constantino, he drafted the statement while getting a haircut and did not communicate this message to all 1,200 employees before blasting it across X.
- When asked if the communications team was consulted beforehand, Constantino said, "We don't have a communications team. We have one PR guy who started five days ago and he said not to send it."
💭 Eleanor's thought bubble: Listen to your communications people.
