VP Harris "prepared" to debate J.D. Vance

Vice President Kamala Harris is "prepared" to debate Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who was named former President Trump's running mate on Monday, a Biden campaign official said Monday on a press call.

The big picture: The Biden-Harris campaign in May said it had accepted an invitation for a CBS-hosted vice presidential debate for July or August.

The Trump campaign, however, said it accepted an invitation for a vice presidential debate that would be hosted by Fox News.

Driving the news: "Vice President Harris is prepared to debate J.D Vance," Biden campaign spokesperson TJ Ducklo said in the call with reporters after Trump named Vance as his running mate.

"We have accepted the proposal from CBS News ... to participate in that debate, and we feel very good."

State of play: The Biden campaign accepted the invitation to participate in an in-studio VP debate hosted by CBS on July 23 or Aug. 13.

"The VP will take it to J.D. Vance," Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said on the Biden campaign press call.
"I'm looking forward to this debate."
