First look: Missouri asks Supreme Court to remove Trump's gag order

• The lawsuit complains that Trump can't attack the judge's family, which means he can't raise his complaint about the judge's daughter working at a firm that previously helped Democratic campaigns.

Driving the news: On Tuesday, Merchan agreed to postpone Trump's sentencing until Sept. 18, to evaluate whether the Supreme Court ruling that presidents have immunity for their "official" actions should affect the New York case, and if so to what extent.

Between the lines: Trump's gag order restricts him from commenting about court staffers besides Merchan, individual prosecutors, and "family members of any counsel, staff member, the court or the district attorney."

• The gag order was partially lifted at the end of Trump's trial. He's now free to assail trial witnesses — including his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen and porn star Stormy Daniels — but remains barred from attacking others.

• It was imposed because of concerns that Trump's remarks could spur supporters into targeting or threatening people covered by the gag order, which had happened previously.

What he's saying: "When President Trump is tethered to a courtroom in New York due to a rogue prosecutor in a collusive judiciary, then Missourians are denied access access to that candidate," Bailey told Axios.
