Good vows "full investigation" as he faces potential ouster

Driving the news: Good trails state senator and former Navy SEAL John McGuire by about 300 votes in a race that's all but certain to head to a recount.

• Good signaled Thursday he was already planning to challenge the results if they don't go his way, telling Steve Bannon's War Room that his team had "a tremendous number" of "lawyers at the ready."
• "We're going to have a full recount, we're going to have a full investigation," he added. "It's going to stretch out for a couple of weeks."

Catch up quick: The Virginia Department of Elections is still counting mail-in ballots — which are due by noon Friday — and reviewing votes already cast for irregularities, according to the Virginia Mercury.

• The state has until July 2 to certify election results, after which Good could request a state-funded recount if he still trails by a margin of less than 1%.

The big picture: Despite not being Trump's favored candidate, Good took a page from the former president's playbook Thursday when he pledged to pull out all the stops to make sure the results aren't distorted by his opponent.

• "We're working very hard to get to an accurate and true and fair reflection of what was intended in the Fifth District," he told Bannon.
• "Everyone should want to make sure that every legal, legitimate vote is counted and only every legal, legitimate vote is counted," he added.

The bottom line: It may not be known for some time who the primary winner is, but the red-leaning district is expected to remain in GOP hands in November.
