Trump backs Freedom Caucus chief's primary rival

• Trump instead endorsed Good's challenger, state legislator and former Navy SEAL John McGuire, in the June 18 primary in Virginia's 5th Congressional District.

What they're saying: Trump called Good "BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA," in a Truth Social post.

• "He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and 'loving' Endorsement - But really, it was too late," Trump added.
• Trump described McGuire as "a true American Hero," who "fought the Cartels on the Front Line, and then came home and fought the drug dealers in Virginia, will ALWAYS PUT AMERICA FIRST."
• Good didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The intrigue: An array of critics, including former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Trump allies and moderate outside groups have been spending heavily against Good, who voted to oust McCarthy in October.

• Good, meanwhile, has picked up endorsements from staunch conservatives, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas).
