1.Water-borne diseases have led to at least four deaths and 120 infections in recent days in the southern area of Brazil hit by severe flooding.
Authorities in Rio Grande do Sul are warning about leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that is usually spread in contaminated water.
The flooding, in which at least 169 people have died and which displaced hundreds of thousands this month, also affected water treatment plants and led to sewer overflows.
2. The Colombian government has begun exploring a sunken 18th century ship believed to hold up to $20 billion in treasure taken from Peruvian and Colombian mines.
The San José galleon, part of the Spanish armada, was sunk by British forces off the coast of Colombia circa 1708.
Colombia announced in 2015 that it had located the ship (though a U.S. salvage company claims it found it first), and last week the government declared the site a protected archeological area to hide the coordinates and deter treasure hunters.
