President Biden and first lady Jill Biden hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, a tradition that dates to 1878.

The big picture: The event was expected to include 40,000 participants, per the White House, making it the biggest one ever, Biden said Monday.

  • Biden made light of the stormy weather in Washington, telling the crowd: "Al Roker told me this morning it was going to get sunny."

Zoom in: The "EGGucation"-themed event, from 7am to 7pm ET, features nine sessions focused on educational activities.

  • "Education expands our horizons and transports us to new worlds," Jill Biden said.
  • Activities include a reading nook, space exploration, making circuit breakers and writing to troops, she said.
