Hanukkah starts at sundown on Thursday and comes amid the Israel-Hamas war, a war in Ukraine and rising antisemitism around the world.

Through the lens: Despite the anxiety, Jewish communities and their allies from Berlin to New York gathered together in public spaces to celebrate the start of the Jewish eight-day, wintertime festival of lights.
