Palestinian student shot in Vermont is now paralyzed, family says

• Awartani's family and friends said, per the fundraiser, that "all three will survive this attack."
• As of Sunday afternoon, over half a million dollars has been raised.
• Awartani is a student at Brown University.

Catch up quick: The three 20-year-old college students were all hospitalized after being shot in Burlington, Vermont, over Thanksgiving weekend.

• Authorities have since arrested a suspect, Jason J. Eaton, 48, in connection with the shooting. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempted murder.

Kinnan Abdalhamid and Tahseen Ali Ahmad, the two other shooting victims, have since been released from the hospital, per CNN.

• Abdalhamid is a student at Haverford College, and Ahmad attends Trinity College.
• Abdalhamid's parents said in a statement last week that they are "extremely relieved that Kinnan has been released from the hospital" and that he was "still in pain and recovering," via a post on X from the Institute for Middle East Understanding.
• "Our priority is his well-being. Kinnan told us that he was afraid to leave the hospital. Our child may be physically well enough to be out of the hospital, but he is still shaken from this horrific attack. We know that this tragedy will shape the rest of our lives," his family said.

• Awartani's family did not respond to Axios' request for comment by publication time.

Of note: Police are currently investigating whether the triple shooting was "hate-motivated."

• The families of each of the victims have called on law enforcement to "conduct a thorough investigation, including treating this as a hate crime."
