Former President Trump has fallen off the Forbes 400 list of America's richest people for the first time in 25 years, Forbes reports.

Driving the news: Trump, worth an estimated $2.5 billion, was $400 million short of the cutoff to make this year's list.

  • Trump is just as wealthy as he was one year ago, when he came in at number 339 on the list, but he is down $600 million since the start of the pandemic as big-city properties have languished, per Forbes.

The big picture: Trump ranked in the top half of the Forbes 400 list from 1997 to 2016, but his positioning started to drop after he took office in 2017.

  • Amazon founder Jeff Bezos topped the list for the fourth year in a row, followed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, per Forbes.
