Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will split "Jeopardy!" hosting duties for the rest of the year, AP reports.

The big picture: The announcement by Sony Pictures Television on Thursday comes after the previously named host, Mike Richards, stepped down when a history of derogatory comments about women and Jewish people came to light.

  • Richards had been selected as Alex Trebek's successor after his passing. Trebek hosted the program for 37 seasons, Axios' Sara Fischer reports.

Driving the news: Bialik was selected as interim host and her episodes will air through Nov. 5, per AP.

  • After Nov. 5, Jennings and Bialik will share hosting duties through the end of the calendar year.
  • Jennings, the show's highest-earning winner, is a consulting producer for the show.
