Erdogan says he and Biden must seek to resolve tensions at upcoming meeting

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that he and President Biden’s meeting at the NATO summit Monday will need to set the platform to pacify tensions between the two countries, Reuters reports.

Why it matters: Relations between the two nations are in a fragile state over disputes concerning Turkey's purchase of Russian S-400 missiles, among other issues.

• Erdogan has said he expects an "unconditional approach" from Biden at their June 14 meeting.

What they’re saying: "We need to put Turkey-U.S. ties on the table first-hand," Erdogan told reporters, per Reuters.

• "There was a lot of gossip internally and externally, so we need to talk about how we can leave these troubles behind, what we can do and what we will do. Turkey is not just any country — it is an allied country."
