Groups of Google employees are staging walkouts around the globe today to protest how the company has handled sexual harassment and misconduct, per the New York Times.
Why it matters: Within the last week, Google’s leadership has been on the defensive about its handling of accusations of harassment or misconduct by executives.
The demands, as posted by organizers on social media, include "An end to Forced Arbitration in cases of harassment and discrimination. ... A commitment to end pay and opportunity inequity. ... A publicly disclosed sexual harassment transparency report."
The big picture: Staff at some Silicon Valley companies have become increasingly involved in activism in recent months, and some of their campaigns are accomplishing their goals — as when Google canceled its Pentagon AI drone project.
