Republican Bill Schuette, Michigan's two-term state attorney general who's become close with President Trump, is now the GOP nominee for governor.
Why it matters: He's considered the strongest candidate against any of the Democrats in the November general election.

Trump recorded a robocall for Schuette that went out Monday, in which he said: "He’s sued the Obama administration to protect Michigan workers and I’ve been working with Bill, right here in the White House, to stop human trafficking and so many other things."
