As Secretary of State Brian Kemp beat out Casey Cagle in Georgia's Republican runoff election for a chance at the governor's seat this fall, Lucy McBath and Carolyn Bourdeaux both narrowly came out on top in Georgia's House runoff elections.
What we're watching: A win for Bordeaux follows the theme we've been watching this election cycle with women candidates seeing success in primaries this year. Both McBath and Bordeaux were endorsed by EMILY's List.
About the races:
- McBath is a gun control advocate and centered her campaign around that. Her son was shot and killed in 2012. Meanwhile, Abel argued that her position on gun control would lose her votes in a Southern state and that he'd have more appeal.
- Bordeaux's road to victory will be tough in a traditionally Republican district. Trump won the district by six points, Vox reports. Bordeaux's campaign has centered around affordable health care.
- Kim, had he won, said he would not support House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in her bid for House speaker, Politico reports.
