MLB attendance drops to lowest in 15 years

Attendance at Major League Baseball games this season has plunged to its lowest average in 15 years — thanks to poor weather and an increase in strikeouts, per the AP.

By the numbers: This year's current average attendance of 27,207 is a 6% drop from this time last year. Should the trend continue, the league could see its first season since 2003 with average attendance below 30,000.

Yes, but some teams have seen increases: the 2017 World Series champion Houston Astros (27,609 to 35,556), Milwaukee Brewers (28,346 to 32,353), the surging New York Yankees (36,280 to 40,271) and Arizona Diamondbacks (22,649 to 25,638).

We’ve got a long way to go. We’re relatively early in the season still and it has been an aberrational part of a season.
