Jared Kushner granted security clearance after year-long delay

Jared Kushner has received a permanent security clearance, after it was downgraded in February from "Interim Top Secret" to "Interim Secret," first reported by the New York Times and confirmed by Axios.

Why it matters: The background check of Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law, took over a year due to his foreign contacts and financial history. It was a point of contention between Chief of Staff John Kelly and Kushner, and there were questions of whether the delay was due to evidence special counsel Robert Mueller had found, which a source told the Times was not the case.
