Former president George H.W. Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital Sunday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood, his office announced in a statement Monday night. "He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering," the statement read. 

Timing: George was admitted to the hospital the day after attending the funeral of his wife of 73 years of marriage, former First Lady Barbara Bush.
