Florida Gov. Rick Scott is running for U.S. Senate

Florida Governor Rick Scott has officially announced his Senate bid to run against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson. "We're going to do the exact same thing we did in Florida, we're going to turn around the national economy, and we're going to make sure Washington works for us," he said.

Why it matters: Although Scott sidestepped Politico's question of whether he considers himself a "Donald Trump Republican," the president has been encouraging him to challenge Sen. Nelson for his seat. And this raises the stakes for Nelson, whose seat is already vulnerable and who is the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida.
