Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte shot down the notion Wednesday that he may pull a Xi Jinping and try to stay in power beyond 2022, when his six-year term ends, reports Reuters. Instead, he said in a speech (that should be taken with a grain of salt) that he hopes to accomplish his political goals sooner rather than later, so he can retire early.
"I will step down by 2020, I will not wait for 2022. I am old. I have no more ambition. I really would like to rest.”— President Rodrigo Duterte
