The FBI has released a statement saying it did not follow protocol after receiving a tip in January on its public access line about Nikolas Cruz, who is suspected of killing 17 people at a South Florida high school:

"The caller provided information about Cruz's gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting. Under established protocols, the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information then should have been forwarded to the FBI Miami field office, where appropriate investigative steps would have been taken."

Flashback: After the Sutherland Springs church shooting, it was revealed that the Air Force did not properly log a domestic violence conviction against the suspect, which would have stopped him from legally buying a gun.
