VA secretary reimburses government for improper use of funds

Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin said he regrets relying on his staff while seeking approval for his wife's travel expenses, and that he has sent a check reimbursing the government for the cost of airfare, per USA Today. Shulkin also said he would reimburse the woman who provided him with Wimbledon tickets on the recommendation of the Inspector General.

Why it matters: A report released this morning found that Shulkin and his staff misled ethics officials in order to gain approval for his wife's trip to Europe, making him the latest in a string of Trump administration officials to face criticism for misusing taxpayer funds for travel.
