The U.S. added 200,000 new jobs in January and the unemployment rate stayed at 4.1%, according to monthly government data. Economists surveyed by Reuters forecast 180,000 new jobs and no change in the unemployment rate.


Why it matters: The report also said wages rose by 2.9% in the last 12 months, the fastest pace in almost a decade in a sign that the booming job market is finally leading to raises for workers and they're benefitting from broad economic growth along with companies and Wall Street.
