Facebook struggles to get into China as government liaison resigns

Wang-Li Moser, Facebook's executive tasked with "courting" China, resigned last month, according to the New York Times, underscoring the difficulties of getting the social network into China's market.

Why it matters, per Axios' David McCabe: Facebook has been trying to find a way to get to China — and its more than 1 billion consumers — for years.

China doesn't allow Google, Snapchat, or Twitter, per the NYT, and Moser was overseeing negotiations between the government and Facebook, which is a platform some officials think "could be dangerously destabilizing."
Per the Times, companies, government entities, and state media "all use advertising on Facebook as a way to reach beyond Chinese borders."
