Jones and Smith take their Senate seats

The newest senators from Alabama and Minnesota were sworn in Wednesday by Vice President Pence, with Doug Jones taking office after defeating Roy Moore, and Tina Smith replacing Al Franken, who resigned over allegations of sexual misconduct.

The big picture: The Republican majority just shrunk by one vote, as the Senate now stands at 51-49.
