The UK spy agency Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) failed to meet their spy recruitment goals by 22% this year due to big tech firms like Google, Apple and Facebook offering as much as 5 times more pay than the government, Quartz and Business Insider reported.
What's next: GCHQ is shortening their lengthy hiring process which has been backlogged, adding to the difficulty of finding and hiring cyber specialists. These roles are becoming increasingly important as international cyber hacking becomes more prominent. Just earlier this year several emails of Members of Parliament were hacked, which was eventually traced to Iran.
