Women outnumber men on most social networks... except LinkedIn

Per Pew and eMarketer:

  • Facebook: 83% vs. 75% female internet users that use the platform vs. male
  • Instagram: 38% vs. 26% female internet users that use the platform vs. male
  • Twitter: 25% vs. 24% female internet users that use the platform vs. male
  • Pinterest: 45% vs. 17% female internet users that use the platform vs. male
  • Snapchat: 52.5% vs. 47.5% female/male user ratio
  • Linkedin: 27% vs. 31% female internet users that use the platform vs. male

The trend: Per Nielsen, women tend to engage with social platforms more often than men (54% vs. 46%) which could be partially because more women access hardware that supports social media platforms. Nielsen estimates that women have higher smartphone, laptop and tablet penetration than men in the U.S.
