Immediately after swearing in Jeff Sessions as attorney general, President Trump signed three executive orders "designed to restore safety in America," per the White House pool report. The orders:
- Target drug cartels "that have spread across our nation and are destroying the blood of our youth"
- Create a task force on reducing violent crime
- Instruct the Department of Justice to implement a plan to halt violent crime against law enforcement
Trump touted the orders as ushering in "a new era of justice," but details on their content are still sparse and the full texts have not yet been made available by the White House.
