The long-slumping PC market showed some signs of life in the first quarter, registering the first year-on-year increase in five years, with HP, Lenovo, Apple, Dell and Acer all reporting sales gains.
According to IDC:
HP retook the top spot for the first time since the first quarter of 2013, thanks to a 13% year-over-year increase.
Lenovo fell to the second spot, amid only 1.7% global growth. It also had its first U.S. decline since the third quarter of 2009, with sales down 4.2 percent year-over-year.
Dell grew 6.2 percent to maintain the third spot, while Apple remained in fourth with 4.1% year-over-year growth. Acer regained ground, finishing fifth globally, on a 2.9% sales increase.
The rest of the PC industry, meanwhile, posted an 11 percent drop in sales as business continues to shift to the global giants at the expense of everyone else.
