A Syrian refugee camp in the Jordan desert is now using solar energy to power its site hosting 20,000 refugees, Bloomberg reports.
Why it matters: The Azraq refugee camp became the first camp to use renewable solar energy, thanks for the U.N. Refugee Agency's help. Now, refugees can charge phones, plug in refrigerators, and light their shelters. Electricity had only been introduced to Azraq in January, and the refugees were previously using solar lanterns to illuminate their space.
