Facebook COO and longtime Planned Parenthood supporter Sheryl Sandberg made the donation to help the organization cover costs as it faces possible defunding from the Republican Congress, Refinery29 reports.
The long view: Sandberg was a Hillary Clinton supporter and was even rumored to be a contender for a cabinet position had the election gone the other way. Since then, she's largely stayed quiet on political issues — until last week. In a Facebook post, she spoke out against Trump's new policy banning federal funding to international health organizations providing abortion s or abortion counseling. Previous presidents have issued similar bans, but Sandberg says Trump's policy is "harsher and broader" because it covers every program that falls under global health assistance.
The longer view: Realclearpolitics reported last month that it's "common knowledge" in Democratic Party circles that Sandberg is considering a presidential bid.
