The Senate just voted down a single payer amendment to the health care bill, 0-57, with 43 senators voting "present." It wasn't a serious amendment — it was sponsored by Republican Sen. Steve Daines, who hates single payer, to dare Democrats to vote for it. Sen. Bernie Sanders — a champion of single payer — called it a "political game" and said he wasn't going to play.
