Sanders: 'I worked as hard as I could' for Clinton

Sen. Bernie Sanders said, "I worked as hard as I could to see that Hillary Clinton would be elected president," but most Americans "vote where they want," on Meet the Press with NBC's Chuck Todd Sunday.

  • On single-payer healthcare: "That is the direction we've got to go. It is not going to happen tomorrow, I admit that. But we need to put the benchmark down there and go forward."
  • On the future of the Democratic Party: "The current model of the Democratic Party obviously is not working. Republicans control the House, the Senate. They control the White House. They control two-thirds of the Governors' offices throughout this country ... What we need to do is reach out to Independents."
