Rand Paul has 6 broken ribs and "water on the lungs"

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) is in much worse shape after his neighbor assaulted him Friday than initial reports suggested. The senator tweeted Wednesday that he has "six broken ribs & new X-ray shows a pleural effusion".

According to Cleveland Clinic, a pleural effusion, also referred to as "water on the lungs," is the build-up of excess fluid around the lungs.
