Houston Mayor urges immigrants to get help, not worry about deportation

At a press conference this afternoon, Houston Mayor Sylvester Tuner said that he would personally represent anyone who asked for help from the hurricane and was threatened with deportation. He praised Houstonians for coming to the aid of those who were stranded by floods, and urged everyone to ask for help if they needed it — no matter their immigration status, race, language or religion.

Remember: Turner did not issue an evacuation order ahead of Hurricane Harvey. Afterward, the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, urged everyone to evacuate even if an order hadn't been issued by local officials.
