The first phone to be released to the U.S. with the Android One program's seal of approval is expected in the first half of the year, according to The Information. The new phone will be different from other Androids because it will guarantee timely software updates, including security updates, for two years after it's sold. The phone is expected to cost anywhere from $200-$300.
Context: Android accounts for more than half of U.S. smartphone sales, but the phone is sold by different brands like Samsung and LG, so many Androids look and perform differently. This is Google's way of regaining control of their product, as well as helping tie the Android name to the Google brand.
