The Department of Homeland Security is expected to announce a ban tomorrow on carrying laptops in the cabins of all flights traveling from Europe to the United States, per The Daily Beast.
The reasoning: This is an expansion of a ban initiated in March on laptops and tablets on board flights from 10 airports around the Middle East to the United States, apparently based on intel obtained during January's raid in Yemen indicating that terrorists have developed a bomb that can hide within a laptop.
A worry: Putting devices with lithium-ion batteries in the cargo hold might actually increase the safety risk, given the batteries' tendency to spontaneously combust.
