Assange: Obama is focusing on Russia to 'delegitimize' Trump

In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity on Tuesday, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange denied that Russia is the organization's source.

Assange said there's an "obvious reason" the Obama administration has focused on Russia's alleged role in hacking the emails of Democratic campaign officials: "They're trying to delegitimize the Trump administration as it goes into the White House"

In December, Assange told Hannity that the documents WikiLeaks received looked "very much like they're from the Russians," even though he asserted they were not the source.

Why it matters: The FBI, CIA and the Obama administration agree that Russia was behind the targeted hacks of DNC officials and John Podesta, but Trump and his aides continue to cast doubt on those claims.

Assange, whose organization is the primary source of the leaked emails, has yet to deny whether Russia did the actual hacking. His responses to Hannity referred to the people who gave him the documents, not the source of the files themselves.
