Trump administration wants stricter rules for imported vehicles

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Trump administration is pushing the Environmental Protection Agency, along with other related agencies, to enforce "stricter environmental rules" on cars being imported to the U.S., as a way to "protect domestic vehicle manufacturing."

Why it matters: This could "require more expensive technology on some foreign cars," the Journal notes, which could raise the price on foreign-made cars sold in the U.S. Administration officials say it's "designed to reduce the relative costs of cars" made in America, but this "non-tariff barrier" has been condemned by the U.S. when used in other countries.
