Supreme Court lets Trump's transgender military ban proceed

President Trump will likely be able to enforce his ban on transgender people serving in the military, at least for a while. The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 order, cleared away lower-court mandates that had frozen the policy while it works its way through the courts. The Pentagon will still need to clear one more legal roadblock before actually moving forward with the ban, but that seems likely to happen.

Between the lines: The court's 4 liberal justices would have kept Trump's ban on ice during the legal appeals — a reminder that Trump's ability to reshape the federal judiciary is a legacy that will outlast almost any specific policy.
