Rex Tillerson to America: Keep Paris exit “in perspective”

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson weighed in on the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate deal, a deal which he has supported in the past. He pointed out that the U.S. has a "terrific record" on reducing greenhouse gases and saying "hopefully people can keep it in perspective," adding: "I don't think we're going to change our ongoing efforts to reduce those emissions in the future either."
Why it matters: The State Department is responsible for managing international agreements like the Paris deal, and Tillerson's statement comes after a noticeable absence at the Rose Garden announcement Thursday and silence on the matter afterwards, even though other agencies with less of a stake in the negotiation of the deal issued statements in support of the President's call.
