Blackburn unveils new KOSA text with Apple endorsement

Sen. Marsha Blackburn released a revamped version of the Kids Online Safety Act Wednesday, kicking off a renewed effort to get the bill passed this Congress.

Driving the news: Blackburn rolled out the new bill text along with Sens. John Thune, Richard Blumenthal and Chuck Schumer.

• Per Blackburn's office, the new bill text has "several changes to further make clear that KOSA would not censor, limit, or remove any content from the internet, and it does not give the FTC or state Attorneys General the power to bring lawsuits over content or speech."

What they're saying: "Congress must not cave to the wills and whims of Big Tech, and we must not be bullied into submission," Blackburn said in a release.

• "Now is the time to stand up and protect future generations from harm by passing KOSA."

KOSA originally passed the Senate last July, but couldn't make it out of the House due to disagreements over potential censorship and excessive litigation and a lack of full support from House leadership.
