President Trump has tapped Senate Commerce Committee telecom policy director Arielle Roth as NTIA administrator.
Why it matters: Roth will be tasked with deploying internet across the country and managing spectrum with other agencies.
- BEAD is under scrutiny on the Hill by Republicans, who are preparing to make changes and cut "red tape" associated with the Biden-era broadband equity program.
- This is a Senate-confirmed position.
Roth has worked on telecom policy for years.
- In addition to her work with Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz, she's served as legislative counsel to Sen. Roy Blunt and as counsel on detail to the House Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee.
- She also previously worked at the FCC as wireline and legal adviser.
What they're saying: "Arielle led my legislative and oversight efforts on communications and broadband policy with integrity, creativity, and dedication. She has fought to defend the taxpayer, free speech, and kids online," Cruz posted on Monday night.
- "She'll serve President Trump and future Commerce Secretary Lutnick well in their mission to advance government efficiency, economic growth, and innovation."
