President-elect Trump on Thursday nominated Olivia Trusty, Sen. Roger Wicker's longtime staffer, to serve on the Federal Communications Commission.
Why it matters: TheFCC will be at the center of speech debates and holding Big Tech accountable, as incoming Chair Brendan Carr has signaled.
Trusty is Trump's nominee for the FCC seat that current Chair Jessica Rosenworcel will vacate next week.
Trusty, who will need Senate confirmation, would also have to grapple with issues around spectrum auctions and internet deployment.
Trusty "has fought tirelessly to grow the Economy, empower Innovation, and reignite the American Dream," Trump said in a Truth Social post.
She will work with Carr "to cut regulations at a record pace, protect Free Speech, and ensure every American has access to affordable and fast Internet," Trump added.
